In any case, this is what the Chinese group would like to achieve.
Chips made in OPPO by 2024?
Today, only certain tech giants can do without the essential Qualcomm to animate their smartphones. Apple, Samsung (with its Exynos chips), or even Huawei have their own mobile processors… and this could soon be the case with OPPO.
Indeed, according to recent information distilled by the very serious Nikkei, OPPO would seriously consider using its own chips by 2023 or 2024, so as to reduce its dependence on foreign suppliers (such as Qualcomm or MediaTek).
OPPO was thus working on a new chip engraved in 3 nm via TSMC technology. In addition to the raw performance of its processor, the company would also like to boost the latter with AI, in order to derive various advantages, in terms of energy consumption for example, but also photography.
The work done by OPPO would not only benefit the brand's smartphones but we could also find the group's new SoCs onboard OnePlus smartphones. Remember that the merger between OnePlus and OPPO has been more than concrete for a few months now, especially with regard to R&D.
OPLUS is the group that manages the OPPO, OnePlus, and realme brands, the latter itself being dependent on the BBK Electronics group (which also manages the Vivo brand)
