What are additional OBB files and what are they for?
Among all the types of archives associated with Android are OBB archives. Have you ever heard of it? We explain to you what it is and what is their specific function in your phone or tablet.
Additional OBB (Opaque Binary Blob) archives are additional archives added to the APK and used in the application process on Android and have the .obb extension. While APKs store the basic components of an application, OBB archives keep all the additional information and data necessary for its proper functioning. They were introduced on Android from version 2.3 Gingerbread of the operating system.
Normally, OBB archives go unnoticed by the user and are downloaded to the device after the application is installed. However, you might come across applications that are distributed that already include OBB files, XAPK archives, and it is even possible to download these OBB archives independently.
As OBB data, we can find cache data, explored maps, levels achieved, enemies defeated, special skills… This is not an application as such, but additional associated data to this one.
OBB archives of an application are accessible on an Android device using an archive explorer. Thus, it is possible to work with them, copying and pasting them where we need them at any time. Among the system folders, you will find those dedicated to each application you have installed.
Inside is the OBB data in a file with this name. However, be very careful if you handle this type of archive since you could corrupt the installation of your applications and games, not being able to open them correctly if you do not act with care: find out how to manipulate this data in the application that you have in hand.
